Short Tour of iWander
These pages will walk you through a short demonstration of
iWander, presenting some if it's highlights and
features.
The iWander application is started using the URL:

Home Page (iwander.html)
This page introduces the user to the web aplication,
provides a link to the pop-up user help and a link to
the page that will start them wandering. (It also provides
a link to the Administrator's Operations page and administrator help
information.)
- Click on User Help for information
about the iWander database design.
- Click on Start Your iWander Trip.
Welcome Page (iwander.cgi)
This page allows the user to pick a region to wander and a
a vessel (mode of transportation). A name for the trip,
proposed starting time and the user's name are also input.
- Select a region to wander from
the available regions to wander selection list.
(e.g.click on the pop-up menu, slide down to
Mine Falls Park and release)
- Give your trip a name, like
"Walk in the Park" by selecting and typing in the name input field.
- Enter your name in the next input field.
You can use your name or an alias (e.g. "Jacob").
- Select a mode of tranportation from the pop-up list,
(e.g. "Foot" makes sense for the park)
- Select an estimated start time by typing it into
the input text area or editing the default value
(e.g. 2001-07-10 12:00:00)
- Click on the Start Wandering button - and you're off ...
Start-Trip Page (starttrip.cgi)
This page displays an image of the region selected
and provides a list of starting points from which to start
wandering from and links to pages that describe the available
starting points
- Click on the Region Information Link
to get a description of the region. It's possible
the page that appears will provide an overview of the
network of waypoints within the region
(e.g. Click on Mine Falls Park .. Information)
- After looking at the regions description, click on
one of the Starting Point Information Links, or go ahead
and select a Starting Point from the menu,
(e.g. Mine Falls Whipple Street Entrance) then
Click on Go to 'region'
Current Waypoint Page (waypoint.cgi)
This the page where the real wandering happens. A
Virtual Wanderer can see the current waypoint, see the views
from that waypoint and choose to wander to destinations that
are reachable.
- A full 360 ° view is not usually represented by
the 5 views shown.
- In order to see all the reachable destinations
assocated with this waypoint, you'll usually have to
Click on Pan Left (or Right. This
is like turning a bit to see what's around.
- You can Click on a Destination (waypoint) description
link to learn more about a destination. Occasionally
there might be a View Desciption link available if there's
something special to be noticed about that view.
- Once you decided where you want to wander to next,
Select that Destination from the destination menu and
Click on Go There.
Note: A reachable destination has to be visible in order
to select a destination.
- After wandering for a while, you can Click on
Show Trip Log to see what sort of wandering you've
been doing
Show Trip/Navigation Log Page (showlog.cgi)
This page shows the waypoints visited by the wanderer in a
trip-log form.
- The log (or wandering plan) presented shows you
visual clues about the places you plan to stop at,
as well as the approximate distances and estimated
travel time.
- Just use File .. Print .. to capture the plan
for when you're ready to start your wandering.
- Click on Continue Trip to continue your current wandering
from the waypoint you were just at, or
- Click on the Start Wandering Again icon to start
a new wandering trip.
Administrator Operations Page (adminmenu.cgi)
This page presents a set of database maintenance functions. Selection of the
function, via a button click, will bring up the page that will prompt
for the information required to do the desired operation.
- By default only the SHOW operation is allowed.
- In debug, or application maintenance, mode
DELETE and INSERT RECORD operations are
allowed. (Debug mode mode is controlled by a
congfiguration variable in the iwander.conf
configuration file)
- Select the name of a table whose contents you'd like to view
and click on the SHOW button.
- Click on INFO Administrator's Information
